St. Francis of Assisi's home afforded many opportunities to take photos. In addition to the previous page, here are some other shots with salient thoughts which I choose to share with you as I come to the end of this wonderful sabbatical experience in Rome and venture forth across the sky and world to get back to the parish.

Morning in Assisi reminded me of San Francisco and our fog. We were so high above the lower city that from my window the fog lay like a blanket on the surrounding countryside and church of Santa Maria des Angeles

A view later in the day showed as the arrow indicates, the mobile homes which still after more than a year house the people displaced by the earthquake. While it is good to rebuild the basilica,it is sad that these people are still without their homes and some elderly are dying because of this neglect.

The place from which these photos were taken and web page constructed was my room in Assisi. It is in a retreat house and I made myself at home in the surroundings.

In the Basilica of San Rufino stands the baptistry at which Francis and Clare were baptized. This close view shows the baptistry and an interesting fresco of an actual baptism - unique indepiction.

 Papal Visits Commemorated in Assisi

Outside the building housing prints of the fallen frescos of the Shrine and its video's about them, there are five bronzes commemorating the visits of Pope John Paul II to Assisi!

Santa Maria del Vittoria in Rome - Bernini!!!!!

Opposite from the sculpture shown below of Theresa, there is a depiction of the Angel Raphael & Tobit. It is life-like sculpture  with lines that impress and movement which is astounding in a piece of marble. On theleft side of this part of the nave there is a relief which shows the nativity. it is impressive and also lifelike and since we are close to the season of Christmas it iis an apt image to include on the web page.

It is truly astonishing to see this Bernini of Theresa of Avila in ecstasy. It is vibrant sensuous and alive.

Parish Reporter Prepares to Sign Off!!!!

After this series of images there will probably be only one more page to this continuing saga. The program of study ends in Rome on November 25. At that time I will leave Rome to celebrate both my birthday and Thanksgiving on the south coast of England. From there I will wend my way back to Our Lady of Mercy to return for "ACTIVE DUTY" on December 18th. The Voyage and Study has been great. The enrichment manifold. Only time and probably my homilies at the parish will be able to attest to the study done. It has been great to share the time and sights with all who have visit olmcath.org.
